Quilts of Valor: Honoring Service with Every Stitch

The Mission of the Quilts of Valor® Foundation is to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. I am honored to participate in the Quilts of Valor® program—a national initiative dedicated to comforting and honoring veterans and service members touched by war. Each Quilt of Valor is more than just fabric and thread; it’s a heartfelt “thank you” stitched with respect, gratitude, and care. Through this program, we create quilts that are awarded to local heroes as a meaningful symbol of appreciation for their sacrifice and service. Every quilt is crafted with high-quality materials and thoughtful design, ensuring it offers warmth, comfort, and a lasting reminder that their service is valued and remembered.  Would you like to nominate a veteran or active-duty service member for a Quilt of Valor, or learn how you can support this mission? Contact me at melissa@sixkidsquilts.com  or visit  Home - Quilts of Valor Foundation to get started. Together, we can wrap our heroes in comfort and appreciation—one quilt at a time.

How You Can Participate

Drop Off Fabric:

  • Fabric used should be high quality 100% “shirt-weight” or “quilt-weight” cotton fabric
appropriate for adults. 100% cotton flannel is acceptable for colder climates.

  • Quilts of Valor do not have to be red, white, and blue. Patriotic and Americana themes are
    popular.

  • Patterns and blocks can be of any design suitable for visually honoring and comforting a
    service member or veteran.

  • Use of military-branch-specific fabrics (Army, Navy, etc.) or non-“patriotic” fabric (overly
floral), unless the recipient is known in advance, may create difficulty in matching with a
    service member or veteran.

Sew With Us: Come into the studio and help piece together quilt blocks. I’ll have pre-cut blocks ready, so you can jump right in—no prep needed.
All Skill Levels Welcome: Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just starting out, you’re invited!

We will meet the first Saturday of every month at the studio, 717 Middle Street, Montevallo, AL  35115 from 10:00-4:00. You’re welcome to bring your own QOV (Quilt of Valor) project to work on, or choose from blocks and materials that I provide. All fabrics and block designs must meet official Quilts of Valor requirements to ensure your quilt can be awarded.
